Though women have made significant progress toward equality, they continue to face challenges across all stages of life.

Every semester, a select group of undergraduate students, through the Advancing Women’s Empowerment & Service (AWES) fellowship, dive into coursework and receive mentorship from a Practitioner-in-Residence, gaining the leadership tools and insights needed to drive meaningful change for women well beyond Georgetown’s gates. Fellows receive a $3000 stipend.

The Advancing Women’s Empowerment & Service (AWES) Fellowship Program, established in 2023, is designed to empower students passionate about addressing historical gender disparities across industries. This program emphasizes developing strong leadership skills and provides access to a diverse range of curricular offerings, including workshops, seminars, and mentorship opportunities. Fellows will engage in transformative learning experiences, equipping them with the tools to advocate for gender equality and drive change in their chosen fields. Through both leadership development and academic enrichment, the AWES Fellowship fosters the next generation of empowered, influential leaders committed to making a lasting impact.

Fellows actively engage in program-relevant coursework while being mentored by our Practitioner in Residence, who plays a key role in sharpening their leadership skills. During the fellowship, students design and host a networking event to connect with industry professionals while also participating in a service opportunity that aligns with their commitment to advancing gender equality. Additionally, fellows participate in community bonding events, ranging from attending cultural events to ropes courses to engaging in professional development activities, fostering both personal growth and a strong sense of camaraderie.

Fellows receive a $3000 stipend during their AWES semester.
