In Fall 2019, the CALL program was launched by the Red House, led by Randy Bass, as a strategic mechanism to advance curricular experimentation and pilot new flexible curricular models designed to advance access, equity and relevance in education. Our approach is rooted within the Ignatian paradigm, connecting theory to practice with time for reflection, analysis, research, and action.

This allows students to have real-world experiences through a combination of curated coursework, experiential learning, interaction with Hoya alumni working in the D.C. area, and living as young professionals downtown. Students connect with leaders in diverse fields; law, public policy, the arts, health equity, education, government, and business, and participate in a variety of cultural, professional, and social opportunities unique to Washington.

Through the leveraging of networks, financial resources, and high touch advising and programming, we work to ensure students’ full participation in all the professional, cultural, and academic offerings the university and city has to offer.

We seek a new relationship with both a vibrant city, as well as a nation’s capital, at its beating center. Our engagement in the broader community makes us better citizens and community members.

By integrating academics with active and intentional participation in the community and workplace, our students are better able to meet the demands of a future defined by uncertainty and complex challenges

We provide students with the opportunity to form meaningful connections with downtown residents, alumni, and staff. These connections are distinct from the relationships they may have previously established on the Hilltop.
